New 2023 census data and functionality in the Regional Economic Profile
We have added the latest 2023 Census data, including small area data, and new features including the ability to focus on a small area and a new ‘Total counts’ page.
New 2023 census data
We have added 2023 data on individuals and dwellings:
- Wide range of new variables including gender, languages, overseas born, religion, children and disabilities.
- Small area data (SA3, SA2, wards, urban areas, and custom areas)
New functionality helps you slice and dice your data in multiple ways
You can now:
- See a summary of key indicators for your area in the Overview page. Use the table to drill-down into the details of an indicator and the map to drill-down geographically.
- View totals for all variables in your area in a new Total counts page.
- Focus on a small area including wards, SA3s or SA2s using the new Census area selector.
- Focus on an indicator (eg ethnicity) in your area and see how it has changed over time or how it compares to another area in the Indicators page.
- Drill down into that indicator and see how the composition of that indicator has changed over time in your area or how it compares to another area in the Indicator drill-down page.
- See how your area compares against other comparable areas for all indicators in the Compare areas | Across my peers page.
- See how an indicator is spread across small areas within your parent area in the Compare areas | Within my area page.
- Download all the census data for your and other areas in the Data page.
Next data update
Stats NZ will be publishing 2023 census data on families and households on 7 November 2024 and we will add the data to the Census module shortly thereafter.
